Khepri, comes from Kheper- the ancient Egyptian god of the rising sun, whose face is depicted by a scarab beetle. Ancient Egyptians saw the scarab as a manifestation of Kheper, representing the creation and sustaining of the cosmos. Our Khepri string necklace is made of black gundis, brass casted nuggets and a tribal inspired pendant. Maya produces craft-intensive, small-batch, handmade jewelry that uses unique, lesser-known techniques like charrakkam or patwakaam and gundikaam. Both are knotting techniques that are in danger of dying because of eroding traditional markets. We provide design interventions to these artisans to create accessories that are Indian in their spirit and global in their iterations.
